Beaches

Andros is one of the favorite Greek Islands for many reasons but primarily because Andros beaches are among the most spectacular in the country. Although Greece has an amazing bunch of islands, it’s safe to say that beaches in Andros are hands down the best you’ve seen so far. This is because Andros beaches are not only abundant but also remarkable in terms of diversity. The island boasts more than 30 beaches which range from long sandy shores to tiny rocky coves. There are beaches for all tastes in Andros. Many of them have beach bars, water sports and music, either loud or relaxing. Others are absolutely unspoilt and laid-back. Similarly, there are beaches within walking distance from the island’s main towns and others which are only accessible by either boat or by 4×4. However, there is one thing that all Andros beaches share in common. They have the clearest waters you could ever dream of, so when you hear about Zorgos, Vitali, Achla, Grias Pidima, Syneti, Ateni, Vori is just a short list of Andros beaches to visit while the rest of them are waiting to be discovered !!

Sight Seeings

Andros Island is the northernmost island within the Cycladic group and has a very strong naval tradition, indeed many of the large Greek shipping owners even have residences on the island, definitely a worthy endorsement. The landscapes are quite different to those of sister islands, the verdant backdrop of pine clad rugged mountains tumbling down to the ocean, make the coastline simply gorgeous. Batsi still retains much of its old 'fishing village' style charm. The focus centres around the pretty harbour with a scattering of restaurants and bars and where the colourful fishing boats bob up and down on the glistening blue waters. We enjoy a range of good quality family run hotels and apartments and what makes this village special is the small and friendly atmosphere you feel upon arrival. It is authentic and genuine - and that makes a big difference!

Gavrion is the port town of whole island and which during the last years changed a lot...new shops and boutiques appeared, fancy restaurants and hotels. This is also the arrival / departure point of the ferry boats coming into Andros. If you are seeking an island that remains unspoiled by mass tourism, that offers superb quality dining in a range of authentic family run tavernas, affordable accommodation and what we consider to be some of the best beaches in the region , then look no further, Andros is for you! Come and discover this little known gem - what are you waiting for ?

Traditional Andros Food

Local cuisine & gastronomy

When referring to the gastronomy of Andros, one should first mention that the most famous plate, an omelette named locally "fourtalia" and its desserts and especially its spoon sweets or preserves, are made of fresh fruits and sugar. The most popular ones are the walnut (the island abounds in walnut trees), the bitter orange, the "rose" from rose petals, the sour cherry and the great “lemon flower” sweet. It is also worth tasting the traditional spoon sweet “pampiloni”, made from the large aromatic citrus fruit of the island, as well as the bergamot. Other famous desserts are the “Amygdalota” (made from marzipan and flower water) which have a unique scent and flavor, “Kaltsounia” with nuts and honey filling, and “Pasteli” (sesame seed candy) made of local walnuts and sesame. Therefore “Pastelaries” is a special treat: It is dried figs with ground walnuts, cinnamon and sesame. In the island’s pastry shops you can find also “Soumada”, a cold drink made of bitter almonds which is usually offered at weddings.
